Temporarily closed from 11 October while Spinnaker Tower prepares for a new operating chapter; no reopening date is announced
Spinnaker Tower is temporarily closed from 11 October 2026 while preparations are made for a new operating chapter under a partnership between Portsmouth City Council and Landsec. No reopening date has been announced, so do not plan tower entry, timed admission or former hospitality and activity products as part of a current Portsmouth day.
When open, the 170-metre waterfront tower is Portsmouth's landmark harbour viewpoint at Gunwharf Quays. Its sail-shaped profile is part of the city skyline, and the normal experience has centred on high-level views across Portsmouth Harbour, the Solent, the Historic Dockyard and towards the Isle of Wight. The viewing route has also included a glass-floor Sky Walk and an open-air upper deck, but the reopening offer and access arrangements may differ under the new operation.
You can still use the setting without relying on admission. Arrive through Gunwharf Quays from Portsmouth Harbour station or The Hard, walk to the waterfront beside the tower, look across the harbour and continue towards nearby restaurants, shops or the Historic Dockyard area. This keeps the convenient transport links and maritime setting while the landmark itself is unavailable.
Former All Day View, same-day return, High Tea, Sky Bar and abseiling arrangements should not be treated as current. New admission, opening, accessibility, food and activity details need to be confirmed when the replacement website and reopening information are published.
