Morris Motors' Oxfordshire
Discover the fascinating story of William Morris, the father of British car manufacturing, through historic Oxfordshire locations
Start you tour at the Oxford Bus Museum. As well as enjoying their assemblage of buses, you will discover their fascinating collection of Morris Motor Company vehicles.
Take the short drive to Cowley, on the outskirts of Oxford, and come across the massive BMW car plant, which produces the iconic Mini. Pay a visit to the Mini Visitor Centre and peruse the gift shop and small exhibition on the production of the Mini. This plant was established by William Morris and the Budd Corporation of Philadelphia to press the car bodies that were used in the manufacture of the Morris Motors in plants either side of this present day site.
Lunch can then be enjoyed at The William Morris, a Wetherspoon restaurant and bar, which celebrates connections to its namesake.
Continue your drive, ending at the National Trusts' property Nuffield Place. This beautiful country manor was home to William Morris and his wife Elizabeth and will give ample opportunity to learn more about one of Britain's most prominent entrepreneurs and philanthropists.
