The Summer of Love
Explore the Haight-Ashbury and Fillmore areas and relive 1967, the 'Summer of Love'
Your tour will begin in the Karma Cafe, where you can enjoy a coffee in the hippie-influence cafe, before walking through The Panhandle, a favorite hippie hangout, and on to the crossroads of Haight and Ashbury streets, the epicentre of the 'Counter-Culture' movement.
Walk around the Haight-Ashbury district, experiencing this colorful and exciting area which spawned the 'Summer of Love' in 1967 and saw thousands of like-minded people gravitate together. Discover interesting historical sites, like where famous sixties muscians like Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin lived, and be amazed at other eye-catching sights like the Dangling Legs at the Piedmont Boutique.
After walking to the end of Haight Street, cross over into the Golden Gate Park and make your way to Hippie Hill. Find a comfy spot on the lawn and then turn on, tune in and drop out, enjoying the beautiful vista out over the Haight-Ashbury district. Once suitably refreshed, head through the park to the Jefferson Airplane House and hail a taxi to Alamo Square.
Admire the creepy William Westerfeld House and see the darker side of the 1960's, before stopping off for a well deserved coffee, and then on to The Fillmore, a venue that hosted a who's who of psychedlic rock.
